  4. It dates from the 14th century, and was
  5. probably derived from the French jeu de
  6. paume. The name fives may refer to the five
  7. fingers, or the original five players, who
  8. had to make five points to win. In Britain,
  9. the game is practically confined to public
  10. schools and colleges, and there are three
  11. main forms: Eton fives, Rugby fives, and
  12. Winchester fives.
